Is Your Vitamin D Vegan? Most Isn't

Is most vitamin D vegan?

No. The most common form in supplements is vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) made from lanolin — the grease extracted from sheep's wool. It works, but it isn't vegan, and most labels don't say where it came from.

How can vitamin D be vegan?

Two ways: D3 from lichen, which is rare and expensive, or D2 (ergocalciferol) from UV-exposed mushrooms. When mushrooms are exposed to UV light they convert the ergosterol in their cell walls into vitamin D2 — the same kind of conversion your skin does in sunlight.

What's in Mala's vitamin D?

Our Vitamin D, C and Zinc is a wholefood powder: vitamin D2 from UV-exposed oyster mushrooms, vitamin C from acerola cherry and zinc from guava leaf. Certified organic, vegan ingredients, no synthetic vitamins, no lanolin.

Is the whole Mala range vegan?

Yes. Every Mala Wellness product is vegan, including the capsule shells — plant-based, no gelatine.

Mala Wellness is grown, harvested and packed on one certified-organic family farm at Stokers Siding, Northern NSW — the same farm behind Shroom Brothers fresh mushrooms. Every batch is independently tested by ACS Laboratory, and the report for your batch is available with your pouch.
